The Girl I’ve Never Met

This poem is one of several poems written by a talented young man that I met at AU, Robbie Ballew. I was so amazed when I read his poetry, that I asked his permission to share them with you to encourage you (thanks Robbie!).

The Girl I’ve Never Met
By Robbie Ballew

Where is the girl who’ll stand beside me

Who won’t give out her love so lightly

Angels guard her at her feet

She’s the one I long to meet

She studies the Bible everyday

And pleases God in every way

Her beauty is like countless fields of flowers

Being watered by mid-spring showers

Yet she does not flirt or flaunt or tease

Because she’s saving it all, just for me

All of her problems, I will mend

And to our love there will be no end

Her every movement shines with glory from above

And her very presence brings peace like a dove

My commitment to her will be forever

And every day we will pray together

No matter if we hunger or thirst

In everything we will put God first

The least I can give her is all of my life

And I’ll have no greater joy than to call her my wife

I’ll give her my love without regret

She is the girl I’ve never met

God Gave Me A Mother

My 11 year old sister, Stefani, wrote an adorable poem for our mother on Mother’s Day and I just have to share it with you. I once had a video of my mom and her friends doing the running man, and OH how I wish I could find it to post with this poem!

God Gave Me A Mother

God gave me a mother that loves me every day.
A mother that cares for me in every way.

God gave me a mother that’s funny and sweet,
and comes to all my gymnastics meets.

God gave me a mother that’s adventurous and fun,
and no days without a crazy run.

God gave me a mother that’s hip, young, and cool,
that loves to do the running man from the old school.

God gave me a mother that follows through.
I thank God it was you.

LOVE (III)

LOVE (III)
by George Herbert (1593-1633)

Love bade me welcome, yet my soul drew back,
Guilty of dust and sin.
But quick-ey’d Love, observing me grow slack
From my first entrance in,
Drew nearer to me, sweetly questioning
If I lack’d anything.

“A guest,” I answer’d, “worthy to be here”;
Love said, “You shall be he.”
“I, the unkind, the ungrateful? ah my dear,
I cannot look on thee.”
Love took my hand and smiling did reply,
“Who made the eyes but I?”

“Truth, Lord, but I have marr’d them; let my shame
Go where it doth deserve.”
“And know you not,” says Love, “who bore the blame?”
“My dear, then I will serve.”
“You must sit down,” says Love, “and taste my meat.”
So I did sit and eat.

His Number

I recently came across this poem that I would like to share with you.
It caught my attention, because it speaks of something that I already
have strong convictions about, even as a young woman. May it touch
your heart the way it did mine.

His Number by Janet Carlton

While waiting
As a bride-to-be
I heard God firmly speak to me
To cast aside the world’s device
And become a living sacrifice

Namely, that my womb should bear
The ones He planned to cradle there
And that no humanistic creed
Should limit my fertility.

Oh, how I wrestled with that word-
So unusual,
So absurd!
Could God?
Would God take control?
And what would His requirements hold?

After much debate and doubt
I threw my own decisions out;
If God can measure earth and sea,
Can He not chart a family?
And if He names and numbers stars
Then in His book is each of ours.
We therefore gave to Him the right
To build the house and take the charge.

A mother now
With nine on hand
By faith and grace I have no plan
But cast aside the things that kill
To let His number be fulfilled.

Memorization Verse of the Week

Isaiah 48:17-19 Thus says the Lord, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: “I am the Lord your God, who teaches you to profit, who leads you in the way you should go. Oh that you had paid attention to my commandments! Then your peace would have been like a river, and your righteousness like the waves of the sea; your offspring would have been like the sand, and your descendants like its grains; their name would never be cut off or destroyed from before me.”
